Our Last Supper

My sister just graduated from high school, and instead of going on a senior trip with her friends she wanted to go on a cruise with my mom & I. She picked the location and the ship, and the girls trip was booked! And even though I spent months begging and begging for Bren and my dad to join us, Ari just really wanted to spend time with her sis, and I kind of loved hearing that.

The time finally came, and for our last night together, I wanted to try this new restaurant I had heard so much about, Alamexo- high end Mexican food in downtown Salt Lake City. Our friends Liv & Will had also been dying to try it and decided to join us!

We sat outside on the patio which was so nice. (Until a homeless guy came up to us asking for money. Will offered him some chips.)

Order the Enchiladas Suizas and the Flautus de Pollo, and of course don't forget to start out with chips & guac. The black beans & rice it comes with are also so so good. You won't be disappointed! I especially loved it because it reminds me of my favorite restaurant in NYC, Rosa Mexicano.

But what really won me over were these complimentary churros they bring you for dessert! They were fresh, warm, and truly the best churros we've ever had. I loved them so much I even stole one that was left on an empty table on our way out. And I'm not even embarrassed about it, because they were THAT good.

These boys are HILARIOUS together. Even though they make fun of us for taking pictures of the food and take selfies without us.

Can you spy the stolen churro?

The next morning was TOUGH. I was crying & even Bren teared up. Are we ridiculous?! You'd think we were never seeing eachother again or something! But the way I look at it, we are so lucky to love eachother so much that we will miss eachother like absolute CRAZY. I tell Bren everyday how lucky we are to have something so special.

We are in New Orleans right now and  getting on the ship in about an hour. If you hear about a girl who jumped off the ship and is swimming to shore on the news, you know who it is and exactly who she's coming for!

Twenty One

June 14th is always a really fun day every year. But this year was the best yet because it was my first birthday married with a husband who spoiled me!

It started off the day before when Brennan surprised me with an early birthday lunch. Bren works in Taylorsville and I work in Draper- we NEVER get to go to lunch together during the week. So this was a special treat. We ate salad, pizza, and paninis at my favorite Whole Foods.

The next morning, we woke up, Bren sang Happy Birthday to me a few times in a few different keys, hurried and got ready, and headed to Gourmandise, a little bakery cafe I had been dying to try! It did NOT disappoint.

Bren couldn't finish his but I had no problem and ate every single bite. By far the best french toast I have ever had.

We then headed over to City Creek, where I was too busy birthday shopping to take any pictures. My darling Bren got me Tory Burch's new perfume, some new tops, and a dress.

After shopping, we headed to Porcupine Grill with some friends, then to Chick-fil-A to get a peach shake (because calories don't count on your birthday), and then to the One Republic Concert!

Great seats, great company, and GREAT entertainment. Hate on One Republic all you want, but they truly are one of the most talented bands around. The lead singer wrote Beyonce's "Halo", and their song "What You Wanted" is the song on The Fault in Our Stars trailer... still hating?

I'm lucky to be married to someone who doesn't disown me when I'm dancing like a crazy person and screaming/singing at the top of my lungs.

And then I came home to this red pretty surprise.

Wait, let's get a closer look.

It's okay if they took your breath away too.
I am a lucky, lucky birthday girl.

I have learned more about myself this past year of being 20 than any other year of my life. I now know exactly who I am, and that is one of the best feelings out there.

Here's to year 21!!!

This weekend was a dream.

These were the only pictures I took all weekend.

HA HA HA. (Sorry babe)

But to be fair, our incline situps we did together were tough.

This weekend was a DREAM.

Friday consisted of a day off (!!!) at the pool with my mom and then Porcupine and Bren's soccer game later that night.

Saturday Brennan and I went to the gym, then picked up salads and sandwiches from the new Whole Foods which even blew Bren away! He's on a health kick lately, which I'm loving. Anyways, not only do they have a salad bar and sandwich station, but a pizza station, gelato bar, breakfast bar, and more! (And it's just down the street from my work... hello new lunch spot everyday.) Then we headed to the pool and then to The Fault in Our Stars that night with our friends. I was so impressed with how great the acting was and how well it was done. I think I cried a fourth a cup of tears. Brennan kept leaning over and whispering, "Are you going to be ok?" ...Is it normal to be this attached to a book? Also, this song from the soundtrack...no words, besides the fact that it's been on repeat. Someone please put this in their wedding video.

Sunday we taught our darling but rowdy 11 year olds and then napped until we headed to my parents' for authentic Mexican street tacos, the best tacos you will EVER have (thanks dad), and then watched some basketball and went on a walk.

It was a weekend of filling our days with whatever WE wanted to do, and those are always my favorite. I love summer!

Also I will step up my picture-taking game.

xoxo

P.S. How do you spend 9 days apart from your husband when the most you've ever been away from eachother is 1 night? We can't go one hour without talking about how sad we are about it, and I don't even leave for 2 weeks. Tips please, I'm really not sure we'll survive.

On Our Balcony

Tin foil dinners
(the closest I like to get to camping)
on a Wednesday night
on our little balcony
on our little blue table
with my favorite person.

We played house.

Last night we played house.
I was the mom, my name was mom.
Greta was Lucy and Lizzy,
Jude was Luis,
and Ez was Leo.
And yes, they made those names up all on their own.
It was a mouthful saying all those L names to tell them dinner was ready or to get in the car to go to Scheels.

Side note: Brennan had a dream the other night that we had a little girl and named her Barbara. But for short we called her Barbie. LAUGHS FOR DAYS.

Anyways, I love being an aunt.

1 Year Ago Today

It's been the best 365 days of my life with a ring on my finger from the boy I am so in love with it hurts.

Night Out with my Boyfriend

This weekend was packed with just Brennan & Ashley time, which is my my faaaaavorite time.
We spent Saturday together going to the gym, lunch, Ikea, and the Nike outlet. On our way home from our errands, Brennan turned to me and said, "Ash can I take you on a date tonight?"
And of course I got butterflies just like when we were dating.
Which made me think:
How important is it to still date your spouse when you're married?
SO IMPORTANT!
And I'm so glad it's just as important to Brennan too.
Whenever I ask him if he wants to do something with a group, he's all for it, but always says he'd rather just hang out with me. (Compliment or what?!)
So off we went to Porcupine Grill to share a mountain of nachos and my favorite house salad,
and then home to cuddle with a pint of Haagen Daz.
Moral of the story #1: Date your spouse. Still call him your boyfriend sometimes.
Moral of the story #2: great husband = great life
